Well, this video is not what I had planned. Originally I thought I'd follow up my unboxing video with a thorough review of the Adam. This video actually ended up being more of a response to requests from many people for me to share my thoughts and opinion on my Adam after having it for about 10 days.
Lots of people here have been waiting patiently for my response. And I really appreciate it!
I recently received an email from none other than John Biggs at crunchgear.com. Lets just say that he suggested I get the review done too...
So I put off everything I could and rearranged my plans to free up some time today so I could get the video clips put together. It was a rush job to get it done, but I think it may help others see why I like my Adam so much.
During the past 10 days I have been very busy with work and other responsibilities, but I have also spent a good amount of time working with Andy at notioninkhacks.com to test the root, market access, and other hacks he and his team have been providing for other the Adam owners. I have also been working with Notion Ink to test the updates they have been working on. It is exciting to see how much progress has been made in only 10 days. It is even more exciting to think about the changes that are coming soon!
Anyway, here is the video...
Part 1 of 2
Part 2 of 2
UPDATE #1: Here is a bonus video that Mike (vector66) created... He has been on the fence for the last 6 months in regard to buying a tablet. This is him describing his experience over that time as he purchased a ViewSonic G-Tablet and now compares it to the Adam tablet he has ordered.
UPDATE #2: I wanted to call attention to the many comments to this post. Be sure to check them out. There is there is a lot of good information there. I also wanted to pull Andy's comment to the forefront and post it here because he provides a great explanation of root access, etc. So here it is... (Thanks Andy!)
- zerofill said... I would like to quickly explain Root and why it voids warranties. Some manufactures go out of the way to make their devices restrictive and the process of gaining root can actually damage your device. This is done to prevent you from doing this like creating a wifi access point for your phone. Otherwise, they cant charge you that additional fee. Furthermore, if a user goes out of his way he can use Root access to change out Kernels and overclock the speed of the processor and damage the device. Now, I like to use root to do the opposite. My HTC Incredible has a 1000Mhz Processor. I use a program that requires root called SetCpu to underclock my processor to 250Mhz when idle and when I use my phone it shoots up to 1000Mhz to save battery life. With Root you can do full backups of your device, etc. When I say full I mean you can backup the entire device to your SD card. It allows you to experiment and have fun with your device without having to worry about reloading all your settings, etc. Or lets say you want to clean your device out you can use Titanium Backup and backup select applications and settings. You can then reset your device to factory and use Titanium Backup to restore your applications with all your passwords and configuration settings. The beauty with the Adam is that its almost impossible to physically damage your device and its easy to undo root. No manufacture supports applications that they didn’t ship on their device. Let me tell you a little information that I have never really shared. About a month before Adam was released I started my Q&A with Rohan asking technical questions. After he said there would be security on the device I emailed him back and asked Rohan to do something revolutionary and ship the device unrestricted. Rohan wrote me back and said he would check on it but he couldn’t make any promises due to partner agreements, etc. Well, Rohan delivered and shipped the device open my team had very little work to do. I have a good relationship with Rohan because my team supports the community and his team. We have enough knowledge and understand what is a software vs. hardware issue and we debunk false claims and tell the world the truth. For instance: When the FCC photos were posted and people started saying that thing is built like crap. We did what any hacker would do and took apart a brand new Adam and disproved the claims posted on just about every major tech website. We even posted the pics for the world to see. You think anyone said hmmm were sorry and posted the facts? No… How about all the websites posting about the camera being broken? Well once again during our tear down we found there was a second protective cover over the lens that was causing a problem. I emailed that info to nearly 800 people and do you think the blogs corrected their statements? No… Listen folks the internet can be a great place or a place where anyone can post something and rumors fly like no other and it can take 3 years of hard work and ruin it overnight. My team has a place for people to report bugs and my crew will replicate the issues and report them to Notion Ink. My community is working to make the first high quality hard case with a kickstand for the Notion Ink Adam. Our hacks don’t interfere with the OTA updates and don’t undo the beauty of Notion Inks work. My group has respect for Notion Ink and the entire community and tells the truth. We gave you Market access to make things easy on you and allow you to download your licenses for paid apps, we gave you Adhoc mode so you can tether your Adam to your cell phone. My community supports you when you need technical assistance. I wake up at 4:00AM in the morning to email Rohan and team to help get the facts and my team works until wee hours of the night to support the community. Judge us by our actions and not by our name. Wouldn’t you want us on your team? Andy
UPDATE #3: Here is another great video... This one is by Shane Trafford. He shows lots of apps in use on his Pixel Qi Adam. He also shows the Adam being used with a portable/flexible keyboard and mouse while playing an online game. Be sure to check it out! Thanks Shane!

Must have just posted this...not available.
I'll check later.
Thanks!
Good video and answers to what some have stated they've had problems with on other sites. Although I'm still waiting on my adam (feb 14), I do think that the notification bar is not one of the default android issues. Using my evo, when I use the web browser, it totally hides the notification bar. Also, with ADW launcher, I'm able to complete the close the notification bar as well. This tells me that is must be possible outside of a change to Android. Just thought I'd share.
Go Greg! Looking forward to 2 of 2.
Thanks for taking the time to do these videos
Awesome Greg!

Read all about Notion Ink at notioninking.com
Thanks Greg!
@hafdolla
That is good news. I hope NI follows suit then and gives us the option to modify the way the notification bar works. I think it gets in teh way too much myself...
TY greg, GJ. -Albert Wertz
Thanks Greg.. Whenever you get chance do some browser performance test as well as battery life test as well. Would you please roughly tell me how good battery life is?
waiting for 2/2.
-Hardik
Video 2 of 2 is processing locally and will start uploading soon. Then YouTube will do its thing. There is a lot more in part 2 so check back in about an hour (just a guess on how long it will take).
Just out of curiosity, why aren't you using the panel in Eden?
Greg do you have any stand by issues with your adam? I am about to post a video of my standby issues @ notioninkhacks
@hafdolla is correct. I have a few different android devices and the notification bar can be hidden in running applications.
I think its great how fast NI is fixing bugs and sending updates!
:)
@Albert
I think I read or watched you stating that your adam simply shuts down after idle time and doesn't go into standby. That's certainly not good news. I've only ever had my phone shutdown when the battery died. Maybe Greg can help shed some light on this with adam?
Nice Video Greg I'm still waiting for mine to ship. how do you like the pixel qi screen after using it for a while.
Good one Greg....so you are indeed back with the BANG!
@Albert Wertz
I have not had any problems with standby that I have noticed. I'll watch closely for the next day or so and let you know if I experience any issues. If there is a bug, let's get the info to Notion Ink so they can fix it quickly for us.
@seabeetodd
As per my feelings about the Pixel Qi screen... Check out part two of this video once it shows up here in the next hour or so. ;-)
There is lots more in the second half on sound and video quality, etc.
here is a link to problems I have been having with standby. watch video and let me know pls. almost done processing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXy20kKD9_w
Great video.Thank you for sharing it.
Excellent post Greg.
It clears quite a bit of misconception people had while using their adam. I am eagerly waiting for the second vide.
Thanks Greg, don't have mine yet and I am a total newbie to android so I appreciate your approach. Between you, Albert, Kam and the really amazing A-team over at NIH I feel I am already learning. Can't wait for adam to show up so I can get a little hands on experience. I'm really encouraged by the quick response we are seeing out of NI.
A very honest video, but it also boosts the good name of Notion Ink. I can't wait for my Valentine Adam.
Thanks Greg. Pretty good review. Waiting for the next one.
Hi Greg, bonus video from Mike (vector66) in the update is apparently doesn't work.
That bonus video is rather blank. There is nothing more than a few logos and a blank screen.
The vector66 video is all black (probably his GTab works like this and so he is planning for adam :) )
That bonus video is blank thxs for your review greg i appreciate your effort
We all love rendering our videos (and the time consumed!)
@greg Very nice review thus far. I am not seeing anything but black screen on vector66 video, though. Do you talk about forced closing in part 2, which appears to be different from the Mail'd closing when using back button issue (e.g., albert wertz shows forced closing when taking videos ... although may be before latest update)?
@greg and/or @andy. Normally root voids warranty. Notion Ink does, however, appear to be working with Notion Ink Hacks. What is NI's policy on rooting the device? Does it void warranty? I asked since you mentioned that you were working with Andy testing out their root.
Greg, thank you for the video. I also really appreciate your son (I assume) who is helping on the our door video :)
I am looking forward to part 2. I was originally going to get the PQ screen. But if the video quality is too much of a compromise, I may just go with LCD. I don't know, I am still on the fence. Hopefully the part 2 of your video will give me more info. It will be great if someone can do a PQ vs LCD side-by-side.
Hey Greg,
Thanks for taking your time to post this nice video.
Is the GPS navigation software that comes with Notion Ink (Google Maps or Mireo).
Any update on Pre-order 2 notification for NIFans.
Thanks and regards
Ravi
It only looks like Adam is only going to get better, which I knew it would! Looking forward to that second video! I am wondering how Adam would run PYKL3Radar. Hopefully someday I will be able to pick up Adam at Best Buy (and find outhow it runs) where I have their card, and also where I can pick them up and interact with them (a Pixel Qi, and an LCD model side by side would be nice to compare them). I just don't have the cash to outright order one right now.
@Greg - fantastic review. Can you let me know which GPS app you used before the custom NI one? It looked pretty cool.
@terrence LCD Adam review at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slehy7p2evg
Greg's is PQ.
@robert
Notion Ink's default policy is that if you root a device and send it back to them or call them for help... they will not be in a position to help you...
However, they love and support open source... so what they are winking at is... do what you want... we don't care... but if you plan to send the device to us for a return... pl. put the original eden UI (which is available free on the their websites) and send it back....
It is like a lease policy of an apartment.. if you paint your walls other than the default one... pl. change it back when you leave... to the default ones...
further, we will NOT actively keep locking our devices... heck, we are NOT locking you to a cell provider too...
Mine is yet to be shipped by the Valentine's Day. It's really much comforted to see many of the bugs found by the NIA owners have been fixed. Looking forward to the 2nd part of your review, especially the audio and PQi video quality). And hope a third firmware update will be out before my NIA arrived!!!
@greg - don't you have android market access with market.android.com now opened up?
thank all of you who are working on this there are some of us who have never worked with android. My adam will hopefully be here in two weeks.
tks for the video Greg. looks like eden will make for a diff. user interaction exp. wating to get my hands on one of these devices.
@Greg,
How about adding Forum and Chat on the website for discussing issues and communication with other members?
@tambeamit
That will only work if you are able to get the market app on your device to register...works great on my phone (which comes with the market), and I've seen those who have rooted adam and loaded the android market app have success with this.
@Greg,
Very nice review Greg. Can you please let me know If you had tried to do a video chat on Adam using Yahoo Messenger? Does it works well? If not, then do we have any other IM to do a video chat on Adam.
Regards
Vikas
Greg,
In one of Rohan's ealrier videos, he shows Adam being used as a PC input device. Have you had a chance to try that or do you know if the feature is available yet?
Andrew
Hi, I am one of the "lucky" ones that got in on the first round of pre orders. My Adam came on Feb 3rd.
Although there are some good and bad points around the Adam, I have decided that it's not for me.
I live in Canada and I am wanting to sell my Adam which is the top model, Pixel Qi with 3G. I am just hoping to recover my cost which with taxes is right around $650.
If you would like to purchase it from me without needing to wait for the Pre order 2, just give me an email and we can work out the details. TonyMcDonaldPMP@gmail.com
Could someone post vector 66's video link because im browsing frm my cellphone n dont have flash
Pratik,

Thanks,

Greg,
The outdoor video of the GPS problem and fix - was the Adam in back light off mode? The colors seem too good for that to be the case. If it was in back light full blast mode it seems to say a lot about what the LCD will be like outside.
-Greg (who people keep thinking is you :) )
@Gregory,
That is def with the backlight on. Looks good.
-Mike
@vector66
thank you
Very good videos. I linked your videos to my website so that people will get to know Adam more as well as your website. If you are not ok with it I could always remove.

Just in anyone wants to see the collection of videos and links I gathered for other reviews.
Thanks Greg and Victor, its really helpful to me..
This is Andy from NIH and I just wanted to let you know that there is an issue with the Adam periodically waking up and I don't think its isolated to just the Adam. My HTC Incredible (Android Phone) will periodically wake up when some types of notifications are received. My team has seen this issue on the stock Adam software (rom) and it’s also been reported to be an issue on the current firmware released on 02/06/11. I wrote Rohan and team an email a few days ago and told him the only universal complaint that I have see to date is the dislike of the notification bar. Rohan responded back and told me that they intend to make improvements to it and release the updates on Feb 14th.
@greg - I love part II even more!! great stuff
@hafdolla - I was kinda hoping that I don't need to sideload the android market onto the adam, but I guess I have little choice now. Anyway, I should get mine sometime in the coming week. Am I excited? sure am!

Greg...
Thanks for video's and yes we are waiting for Adam... all the Bugs that I have seen till date are S/W issues and are getting fixed... so I am going to put my money on Adam only!! :)
Cheers,
@Greg,
Thank you so much for the informative and fair videos and opinions; we counted on you and you delivered exactly what we hoped to see; look forward to more.
@Mike Vector66,
Wow, you've really contributed; good to see PA represented :)
@Andy,
Thank you and your team for distributing FACTS, as opposed to rumors; these past ten days or so would have been much different for the new Adam users without your dedication.
I do look forward to owning an Adam in the future.
Cathy from the NI Blog
Greg, it is such a professional quality presentation with clarity of thought and diction that I think you could give some of those tech blog reviewers a run for their money ;)
Good video! As one of the first users I had some challenges. I did havesome good experiences with NI support. Also various -knowledgable- people helped out a lot.
I have had almost the same good experiences as Greg. The Adam works, I downloaded many apps from the internet and many work really well. Slowely but surely this turns out to be the perfect device to me. I use it to read books, magazines and comics. I listen to internet radio, play games, watch films, browse and email. This list could continue for a while.
I was personaly suprised with the negativity that seems to grow the past few weeks since I had good experiences with solving problems and, even more important, I am realy content with the Adam. I have had some "problems" which turned out to be a lack of understanding of how the Adam works.
Al in al, I could'nt agree more with the videos.
Great vids and oh how I hope the general ordering will open up soon! But just watching and reading all is great fun too :)
Thank you for keeping us so well informed, and thank you all the commenters with great info too!
@Andy, NIH
Very good information. I like your website and appreciate the work you are doing for the community. I would like to add that the other websites like NotionAddicts are mainly used to propagate false information about adam and doing little for the community. I urge Rohan to give due credit to NIH instead of NA.
Prasad
Greg and Mike,
Thank you for your videos, we adam fans greatly appreciate them.
I'm hoping i cleared that list and get an order link sometime soon.
Cheers
Hi Greg,
I like the HDMI cabel you are using very much. I never has seen a cable like yours. Could you please give me a adress where I can order it ??
Thanks,
Harvey
Thank you for fair and honest review and yes, you do have a flair for presentation!
Perfect, thanks, I am happy
nice...greg and mike...awesome work......adam is improvin day by day...i love it
Thanks Greg,
I repeat a question raised in the comments of the last blog entry: Could you please send a short email to all the people on the list you send to NI for PO2? Or better still, ask NI to do the same for the whole batch 2 PO2 list?
Another short question: a guy from Germany reported problems with the built-in microphone, have you tried it and does it work fine for you?
Thanks Greg
It was very informative and am looking forward to ordering an adam when it is available for order.
@Greg,
Great review! well balanced and honest! Wish it had come much earlier to minimize the negative comments by so many 'tech' critics!
Can you please check on dual booting (ex:Ubuntu)?
Very nice videos Greg. Good to see the Adam getting better. :] Gotta say you guys (NIFan, NI Hacks, Notionaddicts) are awesome! Cheers.
raja52
You can check progress of dual boot with ubuntu on xda-developers forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931214 .But it is still in early stage.
Hi Greg
I'll add my thanks too you also.
I enjoyed the reviews and look forward to seeing more done in the same vain, balanced and giving your opinion which I think is straight forward. It’s good to see the issues that have been talked about and how NI are working to solve them. Exactly what I expected from this start up company.
I would ask if you have any info on the next order run, I have been waiting for nearly 10 months to order (I missed out on the first chance due to Master Card problems) and am desperate to do so but time scales may see me look else where which will be regrettable. NI will have no problem selling out the next run but it would be nice if they could provide info to the fans, when and who is on the list. Any help with getting answers to these questions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve
Great videos Greg! Really puts my mind at ease. My only questions is: Does it work with USB card readers? Has anyone tried?
Regards
Yeah~! I received the second pre-order email ~ and already ordered PiQi + Wifi version~
"Estimated Shipping Date 15-February-2011"
So excited~ XD
Good Job ! Thank Greg.
Greg,
Thanks for those excellent videos. Looking forward to seeing more. My thanks, as well, to Mrs. Greg and the kids for loaning your time to the community.
@anand and @zerofill/Andy thanks for the response on root.
Last two questions.
@Greg have you just applied updates and have you also applied NIH roots, etc. If you did apply NIH mods, you may want to provide links to, for example, the video tutorial on how to root the adam.
Anyone familiar with android, general comments on malware/antivirus programs. I use ESET NOD32 and PrevX3.0 on my netbook. What are the good programs for android?
Great job Greg. I think I'll wait for Honeycomb to arrive on the adam. Your honesty an candor is truely appreciated. I've never recieved a pre order email even though I've been registered on the NI blog since CES 2010.
Thanks everyone for the compliments on the video. I was kind of worried about how it would turn out since this is only the second time I have done this, it was a rush job to get it done, lighting is terrible in my basement with all the glare I get from the recessed lights in the ceiling, and I don't have a good camera - I had to use what I call my wife's "purse camera". It is an older and tiny Canon Powershot SD780IS that records 720 video too. I hope to get better with the videos as I do more of them. When I can save up some money I plan to buy a HDMI capture card so I can record tutorial videos direct from Adam's HDMI output.
And thanks to Mike too. I think he did a great job, especially for it being his first video. I appreciated him sharing his experience as he opted to give the ViewSonic G-Tablet a try. I'm confident he will be much happier with the Adam. He paid about the same for the G-Tablet as what the LCD Wifi Adam costs and he got so much less for his money. Anyway, Thanks Mike! I'm looking forward to more videos in the future.
Anyway, I am leaving for church soon and have a few other things to do after that, but I will try to get back later and answer a few of the questions if I can.
Oh... And I want to thank my two older boys who spent so much time holding the camera for me. We also shot video of my 9 year old playing angry birds on the 50" plasma TV but I had to leave it out of the second video since it would have put it over the 15 minute limit imposed by Google. I'll try to add it to a future video for those that are interested. ;-)
Hi Greg,
Great videos, very clear review. Thanks.
You hit the nail on the head when you said there will be plenty of support for the Adam.
I have had another tablet, also android tegra 2, for about 2 months. In that time the support for that device have been amazing. I have learnt so much during that time, from flashing roms, recovering "bricked" tablet, to tweaking apps and yes even getting the notification bar to auto hide, be smaller, narrower etc. ALL this will become available to us with the Adam.
To the android communities around the world e.g XDA etc, teaking these devices is like food and water to them,they love it and they are very helpful, even to newbies, so those concerned about small glitches please know that help (freely offered) is just a few clicks away.
Exciting times ahead guys.
Best Regards
Steve
Greg - You should know that not all cameras in the second batch shipped have the film on the camera. This was confirmed by Rohan to me.
Thanks for your videos - good stuff.
Question - how is your battery life?
Hey Greg, great review!
Just wondering if you found out why your box was opened? I couldnt find anything about it, so my apologies if you had already posted about it..
Not just Adam, this is applicable for all device. One should buy a gadget for what it is, instead of cribbing about what it is not. One cannot get everything in one.I have been delaying my Tablet purchase for the last 6 months, with Honeycomb in place may i will wait for a few more months and get Adam directly from a retail store once it gets Honeycomb and platform stabilizes.
Dear Greg. Good effort. I am also waiting for my Adam LCD. But what I must ask is how did you design you TV setup. No wires are visible which looks really good. HMDI cable input is also not visible. Could you help me with this.
Waqar
Thanks Greg for taking the time doing this videos! I was looking forward to pre-order but I will be in middle of nowhere feb11 - feb23 so I'm afraid that I'm out of luck again :(
Thank you Greg and Mike for great videos!
Q: Greg, what about scratch resistant? It's like Gorilla Glass?
Thank you.
Top drawer Greg, Mike, and Andy. Thank you.
Pura Vida!
Great job Greg thanks for taking time out from your busy schedule to put a few things to rest and let those people waiting for there device not to be discouraged by any bad press they read, Kind regards Shane.
Hey there Greg: thanks for the update and the videos. Great job man!
I had posted a question about US wireless providers, whether the Adam will work with Verizon, AT&T, Sprint...any one of them or all of them, or none of them at all. I ask because of the "3G" variant vs just the wifi, specially with the idea of LTE and 4G coming to a broader spectrum of people in the US.
Have a great day...church and the superbowl, crazy fun and full Sunday ahead!
Too Funny!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/02/06/notion-ink-adam-tablet-gets-a-software-update-no-its-not-honeycomb/
@harvey186: +1!!! I really liked the cable. I believe he said it came from NewEgg, although there was no information on how or where to look for it (website address link would prove helpful, or a post like he did for the stand last week).
@zerofill: are you and AndySmth7 from NIH one in the same? I was going to ask what your site was to go look for help with rooting the adam until I saw Greg's update to this post with your post at the top and him calling you Andy. Thanks for all the hard work!
@fvielmann: Here is the link to Newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=hdmi+cable+swivel&x=0&y=0
To the lucky Adam owners-
A small query- does Yahoo Chat & Y!Supra chat run on the Adam?
Tx, Kamal
@Greg,
Am I correct in thinking the HDMI output to your Plasma TV looked richer than the output on the Adam's P Qi screen?
Also liked your cable suggestion ......
For those in the UK Amazon do a swivel adapter and www.scan.co.uk do a swivel HDMI cable
Amazon UK link
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Tex-SWIVEL-ADAPTER-90-270-DEGREE/dp/B003WUHKF8
Thanks Greg. Videos looks professional.
Glad to see the more postive reviews and opinions of others. This does help with the deciding factor for me at least. I may or may not get the chance to order but I will be following blog. Just want to give a big up to Greg, Mike & Andy and any others keeping up the work behind the scenes. Peace.....
Marcus
Since i am not having an adam yet, can u plz explain me the benefits of having the eden launcher instead of launcher pro/adw/go?
I am realy discouranged by the fact that notioink doesn't seem to offer a lot by the panels mode. First i was realy excited by them, but the execution seems rather thick. First of all u lose the ability to add widgets, wich is a waste of so many helpfull apps. But lets say they keep that system wich is totatly different from honeycomb (and we love honeycomb :P) they will never have a snowball of apps and u know it and that is sad imo! Why not make large (panel like?) widgets instead of that strict panel system especialy now (with honeycomb) are coming even more tools for widgets.
What I was expecting from the panels:
1) Different size of panels
2) The ability to run apps for phones in a panel
3) Special Panels that would help u in multitasking for drug n drop text/pictures.
What I am getting more from other launchers:
1)Resize Widgets (for all the non tablet friendly)
2)Better organization of apps
3)Transitions and other UI effects
Plz tell me if i am somewhere wrong!
Hi Greg,
Thanks for the vids. Was very informative.
So your Adam is just plain Ni OS+Eden+NI Updates or do you have any of the hacked updates/roms/side loads from NIH or anyone else ?
Arun
Right now gregs Adam is plain new update. No hacks.
@Vamsi Polarpu: thanks for the link! (&helping Greg answer some of our simple questions - that most people probably have or would be able to find if we did a search but failed to do so - while he's away).

@Vector66: Hey Mike, great video man. Thanks for making this available and for your candid thoughts about the tablets that are out and your feel and take.
Felipe
Just wanted to add my thanks. After all the negative, it's nice to see that the hardware works. I'll patiently save my nickels until they smooth out their delivery system.
@Greg
Wonderful job Greg! Professional quality! Will be really helpful for people to make up their mind.
@vector66
Good job dude. Hope to see more review from you once you get your Adam.
@Andy
No words are enough for what you guys and your blog are doing for NI and Adam lovers. Keep up the good work and soon many people will jump into the Adam bandwagon knowing that there will be ample help out there for their device.
"Synching" is correct, it's an alternate spelling according to all the dictionaries I checked.
Greg,
Do you have a blackberry and if so could you put tethering the Adam to the bb via blue tooth as one of the test items? I had an Archos 101 tablet that I returned because of an issue with tethering to blackberry's. The Archos could tether to android phones and iPhones but not blackberry's due to some scripting problems.
Thanks
Dan
Sync and Synch are short for Synchronous. The etymology is Greek, with Chronos (Χρόνος) the personification of Time in Greek mythology. The 'ch' in Synch seems closer to the Greek X (Chi).
Now, Brighteness, that's another matter. I hope that bit of Quayleism has been fixed with the latest update.

Is there any word on when the next pre-order email's will go out?
Its to my understanding some email's did go out but sounds like those were to replace the canceled orders.
So when does the real Pre-order start?
Great video Greg, just the sort of thing I am looking for. The GPS app you used what was it?
Looking forward to seeing more, I received my adam last week and love it. Its everything I was expecting. As with yourself I did the research and new the path I was taking and prepared for the bumps on the way, but still a great device. :)
@Vector66: Great feedback Mike. Thanks for giving your candid thoughts about the tablets that are out and your feel and take.
@greg
I did not receive an email about preorder 2. I have posted to the blog 10 or so times before you asked us all for our email and user name for the preorder 2, but everyone of my post were in moderation still up to today all of them have not made it past moderation. Can you tell me if I will get added for batch 2 of the preorder 2?
@spaceone,
Thanks for the XDA link on Ubuntu porting on Adam. I will now follow that thread!
@Robert - This happens all around the Android Community and the general consensus has always been don’t steal our code and re-release it or your will get a letter from a lawyer making treats to remove it. With that being said my team would never do that and risk getting into any legal issues.
We simply need some files out of the dump that will give us a head start on porting honeycomb. Those files will be in the public domain soon and we wouldn’t have released anything until after things were made public. This prevents a claim for damages.
I have removed the post off my website to avoid further remarks. BTW, have a great week Robert it has been nice trading conversations with you.
Andy
impressed by what andy said... really want adam now hopefully they send me preorder2 mail. i am a developer at UOT kitchen XDA .. http://circle.glx.nl
@Greg: In your video you mentioned that double-tap (or double-click) on screen has no effect in Android. This is not quite correct. Double-tap on screen usually activates zoom-in or zoom-out function, especially in browser windows or in photo albums.
Cheers,
Martin
Can Hulu (free) be watched on Adam like on the PC or do I need Hulu Plus as for other mobile devices?
Which version of flash is being used? mine keeps crashing even after the update.
This is Andy from NIH, Hulu requires a modified flash and a special Icon. You can read more about it on my forums or over at XDA. I have it running on my HTC incredible cell phone and love it.
Wow thanks for all the updates and info greg and everyone who contributed.
I was figuring i was going to just go with another tablet that would come out later or something but this has given me some more hope. Nice to see people enjoying the adam
About Hulu, what I can say is that Playon works :)
Playon can be installed on your computer and it acts as a stream to your device. Right now the Android app is not out but the m.playon.com works great on your tablet. You can sign into your hulu/netflix on your pc and you can search through there. My netflix account was turned off but will do a test tonight and give feedback. Man I just flashed my GTab back to factory and is it ever slow....Point is that if a company keeps up with their device it doesn't matter how big they are. I love ViewSonic but this device has some things to be desired for your "Average" user.

Greg:
You ROCK! I had been really worrying about my PQ choice. Now, I am not so worried.
Thank you many times for this great vids. I´ve been infected with the Adam-Virus some month ago. The only thing which holds me back with an order was the LCD vs. PQ -Issue. But this things are now clear to me... i will going for the LCD-version since i like bright displays when i´m working with ... and for sure i will use it outside but not with much sun in my neck. At university all the ebks and papers are formated A4 - it is quite clear thati´m going to use it as an advanced e-reader and as my "core-station" during leasure-time.
Hi! Great vids! Where can I find that nifty stand that you showed - I really like the design of it and would like to purchase one.
Thanks again!
Chris R.
Dear Greg! I have been following NI and the Adam a long time now.I have been very happy with my HTC Desire, and the Ipad is not for me. I have been watching videos and reviews to be able to decide on LCD or Pixel Qi. I want to thank you for a great video (part 1 and 2) witch made my choice easy. Also, I wish to support your closing points in part 2 ! Well said. Oh and I ordered mine just now, having seen your video. Cheers from Norway, best regards Lars B.
hmmm... I have some reservations. I want to support Notion Ink, I buy into the idea.
And I may be incorrect about any of the following and would welcome any corrections.
Notion Ink has been noticeable silent about concerns over blotchy and uneven PQ displays. People are being very accommodating about this. For me this is a serious issue. The Adam is now a post-production model and its display should be working perfectly. Surely Notion Ink were aware of this issue before the shipping the items, but felt above mentioning this to there loyal followers.
Same can be said with battery concerns. Why are Notion Ink not addressing these issues publicly, instead leaving it to disparate few tech savy followers to self-organise into a free PR (even customer support) department?
Notion Ink have not supplied any of the major review websites with a model. Why? What are they scared of? If they feel the Adam is not ready for review then surely it is not ready for sale.
Look, I don't mean to seem pessimistic but for a company that was so open about R&D they are suddenly being very quite. I agree with web based community building and feel the joint customer community and start-up manufacturer partnership is a step in the right direction for digital consumer products but I feel in terms of communication Notion Ink is not pulling there weight.
Yes I want an Adam, but I want Notion Ink to get their act together!
Actually,I just had another look at the http://notionink.wordpress.com/ blog.
Its unacceptable that Rohan has been posting away about the bright and shiny future but has not addressed the camera/battery/PQ issues.
I want a statement before I order. I'v seen PQ in person... blotchyness is not an inherent characteristic! Can this be software fixed???
Love the Videos and great overall reviews from different perspectives. One issue I'm not seeing in any of your videos but I do see on my Adam is the blotchiness issue some are reporting. I took 2 decent photos of the issue so all can see what it looks like and I would love to hear if what you think of it.

Hey Greg,
thanks a lot for the videos. I received the invitation mail from Notion Ink for the pre order round 2, and I didn't know what to do. So I tried to get more information about the Adam in the fastest way possible, and eventually, after seeing your 2 videos, I ordered the LCD-3G version. What made me decide was your last statement, everybody should go for what they need, not for the most fancy stuff. SO, I am happy now with my choice, that you contributed to create. Looking forward to receive my new toy!!!!
Keep on posting useful video like these ones, people put here will be thankful!
Daniele
Hello Everyone! I had been waiting for Adam for almost two years and decided to wait just a little longer to see initial reactions and reviews when it was finally released. After doing a lot of research and watching lots of videos I have finally made my final decision. As going through all the posts and videos regarding Adam takes a lot of time and effort (believe me, I know!), I thought someone might be interested in glancing at the post where I reach my conclusion (I especially recommend paying attention to the first two videos (one of them by Notion Ink Fan - thanks guys!) there - they are the best I have found (and I probably went through a hundred or so) as they clearly show how Adam and Pixel Qi work outdoors):
http://limesinferior.blogspot.com/
To further save your time so that you can assess whether my decision is relevant to you or not and thus whether it makes sense for you to follow the link to my post, I will describe my use case here. I needed a truly mobile device which could be used the way I can use my laptop (I can (barely) survive without a keyboard if I have to) to do the following (which is just a subset of what I do on my laptop) - reading a lot (both web and PDFs, including a complex, multicolumn research papers with both bitmap and vector graphics which I would like to be able to annotate), watching videos (incl. flash), browsing the web, checking and answering my mail, making notes (incl. graphical notes, mind maps etc.). I suspect the list is fairly similar to what many of potential Notion Ink customers would like to do with their mobile devices. The key word for me here is MOBILE. I don't believe a device can be called mobile if people cannot use it outdoors, sometimes in direct sunlight, and when I say use, I mean the working/reading outdoors, comfortably, for hours (and often) - not just occasionally being able to endure the inconvenience of staring at a high-tech mirror like iPad. IMHO, true mobility is not just about being able to easily transport the device between different buildings, but about being able to comfortably use it everywhere (also on one's way from one building to another ;)... or in a park) for extended periods of time. E-ink devices are truly mobile but very restrictive in what one can do with them. The only solution so far is having a Pixel Qi display which is a good compromise between e-ink and a regular screen. Recapitulating, if your use case scenario is similar to mine, you might find the post referenced above useful. If not, than accept my apologies for wasting your time.
If anyone has a pre order link which they don't want to use, let me know
Thanks a Million
What kind of battery life are you getting with your Adam?
Hello,
Just ordered my Adam LCD with 3G. Just curious about this root access and side loading the market. Does this void warranty with NotionInk?
Thanks to the community for posting so much useful info. It made my decision easier when the email arrived last night.
Thanks,
SC
ordered my Adam =] would really like to know about the battery issue... as i thought that the ADAM would last longer than the iPad at least. But now there are reports that ADAM couldn't run more than 6 hrs ( somewhat like the galaxy tab )
anyone got any information on this?
thanks
Hey Greg,
I'm very interested about the battery life of the Adam as well. One of the main draw for me was the promise of 10+ hours of battery life. What are you getting from you Adam?
Thanks!
Can I ask you something? What kinda camcorder did you shoot in your video? The quality of your video is really clear and nice.
I was searching for the battery lifetime in the pixel qi epaper mode but couldnt find anything.
can anyone tell me how long you are able to use your adam as an ebook reader without charging it?
Hi Greg,
Many thanks for the heads up on Adam.
I am anxiously awaiting for my 'Adam' to be delivered later this month.
As some guys have mentioned above, would really appreciate some info on battery life. I know it all depends upon what all applications are running etc..but there are disturbing rumours that it is not what has been promised.
Keep up the good work..much apreciated...
Cheers!
Hi Greg,
How much battery life are you getting out of the PiQi version of Adam. Has anyone done a comparion with LCD version regarding battery life?
Great content overall, but I'm disappointed at how little coverage there seems to be of the PixelQi display outside or in direct sunlight. Mike cited that the PQ display doesn't compare to a dedicated e-ink reader outside, and that's a good thing to know, but otherwise, his coverage was that the screen is that it's "If you plan to use your Adam outdoors then you should consider the Pixel Qi display." *IF* you plan on using it outdoors? That's a crazy given factor for me -- the ability to use a HD multimedia device outside is a game-changer for me, I'm already planning weekends and summer nights around these kinds of devices. And as a train rider, I absolutely need something that can stand up to glare when at the wrong angle. So, I would greatly appreciate some more discussion and video of the highs and lows of the transreflective mode outside. No more "ifs", get out in the world and enjoy it!
Yes I too want to you my adam outdoors. In fact that was the reason that I was attracted to the device in the first place. I don't want to be carrying around multiple devices.
Glad to see all the bugs getting fixed. thanks Greg..
silly question.. will all the new adam being shipped come with the latest update or do we have to install the past updates once we recieve our adam?
I really like your video and I'm looking forward to get my own ADAM, which is on its way.
Where did you ger the stand in video #2 - and is it available in Europe
I am completely disappointed with Notion Ink's customer service. After months of waiting and finally getting to order I contacted customer service because of concerns with the PixelQi image quality (I originally wanted an LCD tablet but, as the post says, they ran out early). I ask about it and express the possibility of a cancelation pending the answer to the question. The person I wrote to canceled my order without answering the question and after a week of back and forth regarding reestablishing the order and the final answer to the question he indicates that the order cannot be reversed because the cancelation was completed a couple of days back. Now I wont get my tablet and possibly have to wait another 2 months or so to reorder. Thank you Notion Ink for the wonderful treatment of your loyal followers....so much for the wait and now I end up with nothing. Hope this doesnt happen to you...Make sure you know everything before ordering.
@Greg
Hi Greg. What is the name of the GPS application you first use tht has the compas built in to it (video NI Review part 1 of 2)?
