Step 1: The Keys You Need to Know
The very first thing you need to understand is that your piano has twelve important keys only. Yes, you read it right, 12 eys only. The whole pad in a keyboard or a piano is just the repetition of those twelve essential keys. For you to start learning the piano, the basic thing you need to understand is those 12 blocks. You’ll have to memorize them and determine its location.
Step 2: The Most Important Chord Types
There are two main types of chords that you need to understand in order to learn how to play the piano. Those are the Major chords and the Minor chords.
Major Chords – These are the music with upbeat themes or sounds that are happy and are sounding bright. Usually, we can hear this kind music in children’s songs, pop songs, and sometimes in Christian songs.
Minor Chords – These are the chords you will hear a lot in ballads, in breakup songs or love songs, really across every genre but not in pop songs. This is the music that can sound a bit more serious and emotional, or even sad.
Step 3: Chord Formulas & Practice
If you passed steps 1 and 2, congratulations! That means you’re doing well on your goal to knowing how to play the piano.
For major chords, all you have to do is remember the 4-3 formula. Put your first finger on the note that is named after whichever major chord you want to play. While the formula for minor chords is 3-4. For a C minor, do the same thing you did before but just reverse the formula.
There are a lot of formulas you need to know, study, and memorize. Once you learn this all, it’s easy for you to practice them in a real piano.
Step 4: Find Chords & Learn
Try to find some chords on the Internet. You can also buy a book with chords of songs for you to practice. Remember that practice makes perfect so the best way to learn the piano is to memorize the chords and practice them.

Try to make your own composition. Play with the piano, literally. There no harm in playing your own.
